ISO 50001:2018 provides organizations with a structured framework for managing energy performance, reducing energy consumption, and demonstrating regulatory compliance. Unlike broader quality or environmental standards, ISO 50001 requires organizations to establish quantifiable energy performance indicators and baselines, identify significant energy uses, and implement action plans tied directly to measurable outcomes.
This 3-day Internal Auditor course is designed to develop the competency needed to plan, perform, and report internal audits of an Energy Management System. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the standard’s requirements and leave equipped to evaluate conformance and drive continual improvement within their organization.
- Understand the requirements and structure of ISO 50001:2018 and its application to organizational energy management
- Identify significant energy uses and conduct a thorough energy review
- Develop, validate, and monitor energy performance indicators and energy baselines
- Relate the organization's context and interested party needs to the planning and implementation of an Energy Management System
- Establish EnMS objectives, targets, and action plans tied to measurable energy performance improvement Understand applicable energy legislation and regulatory requirements
- Apply the principles, procedures, and techniques of management systems auditing
- Plan and prepare for an audit including checklist development and documentation review
- Conduct an effective audit investigation and obtain objective evidence
- Write clear and accurate nonconformity statements
- Establish, plan, and direct the activities of an audit team
- Lead opening and closing meetings and communicate effectively with the auditee and audit client
- Prevent and resolve conflict within the audit team or with the auditee
- Complete the audit report and manage corrective action follow-up
